1st June 2025
By Justin Dyche in Sunday Service on 7 June 2025
Hello Everyone,
I hope you are well, although, as last week, I am aware of several people who are not, and would ask you to pray for them, or better still join us to pray for them on Sunday evening at our Healing Service. On a positive note I am pleased to report that John Pender returned home on Wednesday after his stay in Spinneyfields.
I am going away during next week so am including details of events over the next three weeks, including livestream links for the Sunday morning services at St Columba’s, so do keep this email handy. Some more information about these events:
SUNDAY 1st JUNE
We have two services on Sunday, both at St Columba’s:
10.30am ALL AGE WORSHIP – led by the children and with contributions from people who went to Spring Harvest this year to gather interest before we have to book for next year’s event (see below). This service will be available on Youtube at: https://youtube.com/live/kI2hyVIr9WE?feature=share
6pm HEALING SERVICE at St Columba’s – this quieter service is open to everyone but especially anyone who is seeking healing of body, mind or spirit, either personally or for someone else.
BIBLE COURSE
I am pleased to say that the new Bible Course, published by the Bible Society, will begin at St Columba’s on WEDNESDAY 4th JUNE. Like the Lent Course there will be two meetings covering the same material, one at 10.30am and the other at 7.30pm. Both begin with refreshments. It doesn’t matter whether you come in the morning or evening, or if you switch depending on your availability. Do come along if you are new to the Bible, or if you have been reading it for years, there is sure to be something for everyone, and the discussion will be better with a range of experience.
I am planning on placing a second order for copies of the guidebook that goes with the Course, but will not do that until after the first session on Wednesday. The price of these is £9.99.
There is a Daily Bible Plan included with the book but everyone can access this summary for weeks 1 to 3.
FRIDAY 6th JUNE to SATURDAY 7th JUNE – Deanery 24 hours of Prayer in St Columba’s
Corby Deanery have organised this 24 hour prayer event. It is happening in St Columba’s and starts on Friday 6th June at 7pm and lasts until Saturday 7th June at 7pm. If you would like to participate for an hour you can book via this link: https://signup.24-7prayer.com/signup/e384ff/
You can either register on the 24/7 Prayer website or book as a Guest, either way allows you to book an hour long slot.
SUNDAY 8th JUNE
This is when we are looking forward to welcoming our former vicar, ROGER MORGAN back to St Columba’s. Roger will be preaching and praying at our 10.30 service which will also include ENERGIZE groups for children and young people and the service will be available to watch on Youtube here:
https://youtube.com/live/1EpKML3zCaI?feature=share
After the service there will be LUNCH in the Church Hall to which all are welcome but especially those who knew Roger. Janet asks that if you are coming to the lunch please bring some food to share, prepared on a plate covered with cling film or foil, so that it can simply be uncovered and shared. Then after lunch simply take your dirty (and probably empty) plate away to wash!
Also on that day there will be a “HYMN REQUESTS and TEA” FAMILY SERVICE in St Leonard’s, Rockingham at 3pm and a PRAYER MEETING in St Columba’s at 6pm.
SPRING HARVEST 2026
I know most people reading this email will be familiar with Spring Harvest, but for those who are not it is a Christian Conference for all ages held at Butlin’s every Easter. We have been as a group from St Columba’s for several years and are planning to do so again in 2026 but there are some changes, and as a result there are three options people wanting to go might consider. All the details are on this document, printed copies of which will be available from Miriam or myself in church. Please ask either of us if you have questions and be ready to give your name to us if you would like to go in a group to Minehead or if you need information about how to book yourself in at Skegness (remember you can only book a room or apartment NOT as an individual but individuals can join the group going to Minehead). The booking lines open at 8am on Wednesday 11th June.
WEDNESDAY 11th JUNE – BIBLE course continues at 10.30am and 7.30pm in St Columba’s. Don’t forget the Bible Reading Plan (Week 2).
FRIDAY 13th JUNE – LADIES AFTERNOON TEA in St Columba’s Church Hall at 3pm. All ladies are welcome to this monthly get-together for tea or coffee, sandwiches, cakes and conversation. No need to book simply turn up and enjoy this time together.
SUNDAY 15th JUNE
10.30am MORNING WORSHIP with ENERGIZE groups and on Youtube at: https://youtube.com/live/BYuLRZMtAYY?feature=share
6pm PRAYER MEETING at St Columba’s
WEDNESDAY 18th JUNE – BIBLE course continues at 10.30am and 7.30pm in St Columba’s. Don’t forget the Bible Reading Plan (Week 3).
SATURDAY 21st JUNE – GAMES NIGHT in St Columba’s Church Hall. There will be nibbles available but people are invited to bring any drinks or extra snacks they want. The time is to be confirmed, but it will be early evening making it a family friendly and fun time for all.
